Thousands Of Students Identified As Struggling With Virtual Learning In PBC

Nearly 22,000 students enrolled in virtual learning are struggling in Palm Beach County.

The School District says it has identified 10,000 elementary school students, 3,800 in middle school and 8,000 high schoolers that are underperforming while taking their classes online.

Another 3,300 students are identified as not engaged in schooling at all, despite being enrolled.

District officials say they will encourage the parents of those students to send them back to brick-and-mortar classrooms next semester.

When registering their choice for the spring semester, the parents of struggling students will receive a message from the district that urges them to send their children back to campuses in January. The registration portal opens on Jan. 4, 2021.

The winter break begins after classes wrap up on Friday.
