Mayor Asks Gov. DeSantis To Allow The City To Enforce Mask Mandate, Etc.

One South Florida city wants the governor to allow them to better enforce coronavirus safety measures.

Delray Beach Mayor Shelly Petrolia says she has sent a request to Ron DeSantis, asking him to reevaluate the protocols for the city. She wants him to pull back his Executive Order that bans local governments from issuing penalties and fines for violations.

Petrolia is concerned about the large groups of young people who show up along Atlantic Avenue in the evenings and on weekends.

She wants the city to have the ability to enforce things like social distancing and mask-wearing. Currently, it's left up to the businesses themselves to enforce those things.

Petrolia says the order takes away home rule.
