- Governor DeSantis signed another nine bills into law on Tuesday including... The Terrorism bill. The law specifies that suspected terrorists aren’t entitled to a jury trial in Florida, nor are they entitled to Florida provided resources such as a legal defense. The Department of Corrections bill is now law. The legislation raises the penalties for sexual misconduct by those working within the Corrections Department. The Mental Health Treatment bill is now law. The legislation calls for the allowance of mental health treatments for those in the corrections system. The Agency for Persons with Disabilities bill is also now law. The new law provides greater resources for those who use Florida’s APD system, including a continuing education program for those with learning disabilities.
- Tropical Storm Bret is expected to remain a tropical storm on the approach to the Lesser Antilles before weakening into a depression and dissipating before another landfall. The second disturbance is the Atlantic is likely to develop into a depression within the next day and isn’t expected to be a concern.
- A new analysis by the Federal Energy Information Administration shows Florida is one of the top producers of energy in the country while we’re among the lowest consumers of it. Florida currently produces the third most electricity in the country, however we’re only the 45th largest consumer of energy per capita. Florida’s prices are also among the most affordable nationally as well.
- Gas prices dropped a couple of cents per gallon on Tuesday. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.38 per gallon – 8 cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.57 per gallon, which is the highest in the state.
