  • Governor DeSantis signed another ten bills into law on Thursday including the Florida Kidcare Program Eligibility bill, which raises income thresholds for eligibility to Florida’s state subsidized health insurance program for children allowing most Florida families to become eligible for reduced cost coverage. The Children’s Initiative Projects bill is now law which will use local non-profits to identify disadvantaged communities where additional investments in educational programs to enhance literacy and related programs are needed. The state will use local non-profits to carry out the programs. The Jupiter Inlet District, Palm Beach County bill is now law. The legislation is a redefining of the district which updates its status to reflect new boundaries, population growth and use of waterways.  
  • Lake Worth Middle School principal Michael Williams has been suspended without pay for two weeks and is being reassigned following an investigation into the principal’s conduct in a recorded altercation with a parent. In the video recording Williams cursed and used racial slurs. The reassignment recommendation from Superintendent Burke calls for Williams to remain a principal. There’s not been a decision on where the reassignment will be. 
  • Tropical Storm Bret made its way through the Lesser Antilles overnight. It’s expected to dissipate over the weekend in the Caribbean Sea. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Cindy has developed in the Atlantic and is expected to travel north of the Bahamas where it’s expected to dissipate by mid-week next week. 
  • Gas prices dropped another penny on Thursday. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.36 per gallon – 7 cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.53 per gallon, which is the second highest in the state.
