  • Tropical Storm Philippe remains the lone disturbance in the Atlantic. Forecasters continue to have a hard time forecasting this system. After impacting the Leeward Islands it’s now turning north where it’s expected to cross over Bermuda on its way towards the northeast for a potential landfall in Maine or Nova Scotia. 
  • Florida ranks #1 in the annual ALEC educational freedom report. The American Legislative Exchange Council graded Florida a 95 out of a possible 100 for educational freedom, a score that’s greater than double the national average. Florida ranks #1 overall for funding and financing of educational choice programs, #1 for virtual education with Florida’s Virtual School, and #1 for open enrollment options. 
  • Palm Beach County has approved $200 million for affordable housing projects. The vote by the county commission authorizes what county voters put in motion through a bond approval last November. The leading proposal for use of the funds has been proposed by the Housing Leadership Council of Palm Beach County. The plan outlines a total of 20,000 housing and workforce housing units to be built over the next nine years.  
  • Lake Worth Beach has an estimated $31.8 million of water infrastructure needs according to the findings of the city council. The City is seeking $1.8 million in matching funds from the state to begin to address the drainage needs within the city. A new $1 million pump has been approved for 18th Avenue as a first step in the infrastructure upgrading process. 
  • Gas prices rose for a second consecutive day. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.52 per gallon two cents higher over the past day, though 4 cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.70 per gallon, which is the 7th highest price in the state.
