  • As the state legislative session gets underway today the Coverage for Diagnostic and Supplemental Breast Examinations bill will be closely watched as it's taken up in the state senate. The proposed legislation would prevent out-of-pocket expenses for breast examinations deemed medically necessary.  
  • New Census Bureau data shows the average Florida household spends $287 per week on groceries, which is the fifth highest price nationally, as inflation in Florida continues to be among the highest in the country.  
  • Vero Beach High School began using metal detectors as part of a pilot program on Friday following last week’s apprehension of a gun from a student on campus. The process was smooth on the first day. The Indian River County School District will look to expand the use of metal detectors to other schools in the near future. 
  • Today is one of the coolest days of the season with highs in the lower 60’s which is 8 degrees cooler than usual for this time of year. Cooler than usual temps will remain throughout the week. 
  • Gas prices dropped a bit over the weekend. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is now $3.15 per gallon - 16 cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.33 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.22 and in Indian River County the average is $3.16 per gallon.
