  • As the state session gets underway today a top order of business will be for the state senate to consider Governor DeSantis’ nominee to lead the Florida State Guard – Mark Theieme. The nomination to lead the state’s guard has taken on added significance as it’s being deployed to the southern border, along with the Florida National Guard, to assist Texas in securing the southern border.  
  • Movers in the state legislative session most recently included the My Safe Florida Condominium Pilot Program which would allow condo associations to tap into $433 million in grant money to upgrade roofs and exterior doors and windows for the purpose of storm mitigation and a reduction in property insurance premiums.  
  • 32 would-be illegal immigrants were detained by authorities at the Fort Pierce Inlet Saturday. Smugglers from Haiti ran a boat aground as several attempted to flee authorities. All 32 were detained through the joint agency operation which included federal and local authorities and will be repatriated to Haiti. 
  • Temperatures will be well below usual with highs in the mid 60’s, about 8 degrees cooler than usual for this time of year. Showers are expected throughout the day today. Cooler than usual temps are expected through Wednesday. 
  • Gas prices dipped a bit over the weekend though prices are still higher than a week ago. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is now $3.22 per gallon - 7 cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.40 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.29 and in Indian River County the average is $3.22 per gallon.
