- Heading into the weekend Governor DeSantis signed 28 bills into law, in the busiest bill signing day yet. Among the new laws - Artificial Intelligence Use in Political Advertising. The law mandates any use of AI within a political ad be disclosed. The Excusal from Jury Service bill is now law, which excuses expecting mothers or mothers of newborns from jury duty. The Interception and Disclosure of Oral Communications bill is now law. The new law empowers parents to intercept and record oral communications with their children if they believe that someone is attempting to harm them. The Tracking Devices and Applications bill is now law. The new law bans the use of electronic tracking devices to monitor the location or movement of another person without their consent. Also, the HIV Infection Prevention Drugs bill is now law. The new law, which will take effect July 1st, will empower pharmacists with the ability to screen for HIV.
- The University of Florida has issued a formal warning to students that any illegal protesting on campus including camping, the use of bullhorns, protesting inside of buildings, etc. will result in potential banishment and/or suspension from the university for three years. The notice came following increased illegal anti-Semitic protests on college campuses across the country and after Governor DeSantis warned students that they would be expelled for similar conduct if attempted in Florida.
- Progress with water quality has been made following the April 9th sewer line rupture near Florida Mango Road and Waterside Dr. As of Friday, health officials lifted advisories for Lake Clarke and Lake Clarke Shores, the Grassy Saw Lake, Lake Osborne and several area canals. A health advisory remains in effect for surface water near the point of impact between Florida Mango Road and Congress Ave.
- The weather will remain windy and warm today with wind gusts in the low 20’s and highs in the low 80’s, which is slightly higher than usual for this date. We should have pleasant weather throughout the week.
- Gas prices were a bit lower through the weekend though they’re still higher than a week ago. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is currently $3.58 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.76 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.62 and in Indian River County the average is $3.57 per gallon.
