What increases the chance of being bitten by mosquitoes:

What increases the chance of being bitten by mosquitoes:

Bottom Line: It's almost time for the rainy season to role around and we know that the proliferation of mosquitoes will follow. Aside from the usual awfulness of being mauled by the bloodsuckers, we have Zika to worry about these days as well. Some people really are mosquito magnets (I know - I'm one of them). Here's what scientists found that Business Insider aggregated for their mosquito magnet story (these are causes of added mosquito attraction):

  • Being of above average size (releasing more carbon dioxide)
  • Sweating
  • Drinking beer (really!)
  • Type O blood
  • Non-diverse skin bacteria
  • Attractant compounds (pheromone)
  • Pregnant women

Any of those can create an increase mosquito attraction and if multiples of those are occurring you're really a magnet. Notice in that in the era of Zika, pregnant women are naturally more at risk of being bitten. That's even more reason to be extra cautious.
