Updated - Resume to don'ts...What's liable to hurt you more than help you - From LinkedIn to your actual resume:

Bottom Line: Trends and changes in professional social media and resume preparation occur much faster these days. What might have been an ideal approach a year ago - has the potential to be cliche today. So here's the latest guidance with regard to the most abused "buzz words" and phrases that are actually more likely to harm you on LinkedIn and submitted resumes. (Aggregated info from Robert Half & LinkedIn via Business Insider):

  • #5: Results-driven
  • #4: Phone (just put your number - don't indicate that it's your phone number)
  • #3: Best of breed
  • #2: Exceptional communicator
  • #1: Leadership

If you're doing or using any of those, it likely would serve you better to revise your profile and resume avoiding those terms/phrases. Ironically enough you have a better chance of standing out by not telling people that you're a stand-out by virtue of uses the most abused adjectives.
