Tracking Trump - The President's approval 5-12-17:

Bottom Line: This is one of two weekly tracking stories to get a reality/temperature check with regard to what's really going on with public opinion of the PresidentIn this series we'll track the high point, low point and current ratings and week over week comparisons.

  • Trump's lowest ratings: 40.4% approval and 52.8% disapprove: -12.3% (4/7/17)

  • Trump highest approval ratings were an average 45.2% approval and 43% disapproval +2.2% (1/27/17)

  • Trump's current ratings: 41.6% approval and 53.8% disapprove: -12.2%

What a difference a week makes. A week ago President Trump benefited from the biggest weekly improvement in his net approval rating he'd had so far. It was followed up with his worst week. The Trump's net approval rating declined by 6.7% this week. It's hard to know what's what because the polls are all over the freaking place. Last week we thought we'd be talking about healthcare's prospects in the Senate. Instead there's nothing beyond the C word. Here's the thing. It's easy to say that the President is getting killed in the polls over the Comey firing. Lord knows the media's throwing the kitchen sink at trying to make it happen but...

The variance between pollsters was 18 points this week. The range this week is Rasmussen -4% to Quinnipiac -22%. So what's real? Guess we'll have a better idea next week. Otherwise you can pick the poll you like based on what you want to believe.
