How insane has polling in this political environment become?

How insane has polling in this political environment become?

Bottom Line: Here's an actual headline from CNBC: Higher percentage of Americans want Trump's impeachment than wanted Nixon's as Watergate escalated: Poll

I don't know what's more outrageous...The question being paid for and asked of Americans, no actual grounds for impeachment having been established despite this type of polling, or CNBC's headline. What's more is that the headline could also have been this..."Most Americans reject the impeachment premise being advanced by pollsters who're more interested in advancing a false media narrative than actual information". I got a little carried away but you get the point. Here's the information from the Monmouth poll cited:

  • 53% don't support impeachment
  • 41% want impeachment

So given that most Americans don't want impeachment, media outlets bent on advancing a narrative had to work a little extra. So they decided to find pre-Nixon resignation polling. During the Watergate investigation only 24% of Americans wanted Nixon impeached - so there you go. If you're part of the Godless, soulless, slanderous media and you've spent the past six months creating your own Trump - Russia collusion conspiracy theories and believe them - this might make sense. If you live in reality and know that not any evidence has been produced of Trump/Russia collusion (more evidence has been produced that could speak to Lynch/Clinton/Russia activity than Trump) - this is just the latest example of how the media has jumped the shark. It's notable that just last week Gallup, a pollster, found that President Trump is more trusted than both the pollsters and the media. This is the latest obvious example of why. On one hand I find it disturbing that 41% of people responded that Trump should be impeached despite no evidence of anything impeachable. On the other hand if you watch CNN or a like network, you might believe the demonstrably false and discredited information they've reported.
