The Fauch Isn’t Fooling Us Anymore - Top Three Takeaways – January 25th, 2022

  1. The Fauch isn’t fooling us anymore. A lot of news was made based on NBC’s newest round of polling. Much of that came in the form of Chuck Todd himself admitting that based on NBC’s polling Americans broadly view President Biden as incompetent and ineffective. The honest and candid depiction by Chuck Todd is interesting, but we already knew that. The most interesting Biden related number from NBC’s polling in my opinion, was on the question as to if Biden’s exceeded expectations during his first year in office. On back of Biden’s claim in last week’s presser that he’s exceeded all expectations – NBC asked the question and found actual people who agreed. Not many, but people. 5% responding said Biden’s outperformed expectations. It does lead one to wonder about those 5%. Anyway, to me the most interesting contextual question in NBC’s poll was about the Fauch. On the question as to if we trust him... Just 40% said yes, while 43% said no. The Fauch has lost most of the country. The CDC’s just barely doing better with only 44% of Americans saying they still trust the unelected body of scientists in Atlanta. While it’s sad that the Fauch and CDC aren’t trustworthy, this information is encouraging for any number of reasons pertaining to Americans paying attention and beginning to think for themselves during this pandemic.
  2. Stuck on stupid. A first week priority for a newly inaugurated President Biden was a one-two step of energy policy we’re paying ever more for in real-time. He simultaneously halted construction and use of US energy pipelines while greenlighting Russia’s pipeline to Europe. The result, less domestic energy supply, greater reliance on foreign sources of energy and higher prices as a result. Specific to oil, during the four years of Donald Trump’s administration, importing of oil decreased annually resulting in the US importing 28% less energy from around the world, despite increased demand. That meant 28% less foreign influence, greater price stability and more money kept within the US economy. What’s more, 2020 was the first year in American history in which we were a net exporter of energy, meaning the US achieved energy independence. What happened in year one of the Biden administration? Four years of progress was effectively unwound as US imports of oil increased 37% as US energy production diminished. And which country saw the biggest increase in growth in sales of energy to the United States? Russia. That’s right, Russia. Russia’s now the fourth biggest supplier of oil into the United States. In year one of the Biden administration, Russian oil imports into the United States increased by 265%. So, here’s what’s happened. The US went from being...
  3. Energy independent to energy reliant in under a year due to Biden administration policies which has led to higher prices and greater volatility in the energy markets. And bonus... The biggest beneficiary has been Russia which has been able to sell into Europe and has had a near three-fold increase in sales to the United States. And what’s Russia doing with all of this newfound wealth? That’s right, we see it in real-time on the Ukraine border and it has the potential to drag us into war. Stupid is as stupid does. The Biden administration energy policy is as stupid as it gets, and we've been forced to pay for it in multiple ways. If ever there was Russian collusion, perhaps someone should investigate this? Putin couldn’t have crafted a better plan himself. Or who knows, maybe he did? In the meantime, I say we send the preeminent Ukranian energy expert Hunter Biden, back to the board of Burisma where they can offer him to the Russians in exchange for de-escalation.
