America’s Governor, Omicron is Gone & Choosing Life- Top Three Takeaways - February 17th, 2022

  1. America’s Governor. Ron DeSantis has been called many things. Some of them outrageous and slanderous, I’ll refer you to the ever-desperate Nikki Fried – she of the Hitler references. Some of them simply absurd like “DeathSantis” - which btw, wasn’t even the byproduct of a Floridian but rather two New York City comedians. But the one that’s proving to stick is America’s Governor. Now, in order to make that type of moniker stick, you've got to be able to transcend well beyond your base. And it must start at home. While all recent polling shows Governor DeSantis with wide leads over all potential comers this year in his reelection bid for governor – which is key if you’re to be “America’s Governor”, it’s where so much of the support is coming from that shows why he’s earning his nickname. In Mason-Dixon's latest poll DeSantis is sporting a +29% approval rating with Florida’s Independents with 61% approval to just 32% disapproval. This is reminiscent of the pre-Covid days when DeSantis was enjoying record high approval polling for a Republican in our state and viruses were the furthest concerns from our minds. It’s not only a recipe to roll to a reelection win. It’s key to winning over the country which is why despite a relentless effort by Democrats and their allies in the news media to destroy the man during the pandemic, he’s emerged not just as a popular Florida governor, but as America’s Governor coming out of it. Speaking of which...
  2. Omicron is almost gone in Florida. The most recent trend for new Covid cases in Florida is only a tenth of what it was just over a month ago. As many suggested it likely would, the surge ended about as quickly as it started. Only this time with omicron just about gone – the pandemic is done along with it. Most Floridians have come to realize variants of this virus are here to stay and in the Freestate of Florida the pandemic only still exists if you want it too. But here’s something else to consider. How many Floridians have never had the virus? With omicron just about gone and with us now two full years into the pandemic, how many Floridians do you think have officially tested positive for it somewhere along the way? 27%. Barely more than one in four. And what’s the difference when compared to the country as a whole? 2%. Yeah, that’s right only 2% more Floridians have contracted the virus than the country as a whole, despite being the third most populous state and being the most free and open throughout. This is but the latest reminder that the idea of trading freedom for “safety” gives you neither. But the season of omicron, aka flu season, is almost gone and the pandemic is over for all but the most bitterly clinging Fauchists among us. One thing that hasn’t changed? There’s still not a day that goes by in which I’m not grateful to be waking up in the Freestate of Florida. Now about that making America Florida thing.
  3. A matter of life and death. Know what’s far more deadly than Covid? An abortion. I know, it’s an uncomfortable thought and conversation but over 99% of those who’ve contracted Covid have survived, what’s the survival rate for aborted babies? In fact, did you know that since the onset of the pandemic abortion has been a far bigger killer than Covid? That’s right, there are an estimated 300,000 more abortions that have taken place during the pandemic than Americans having died of COVID-19. We shut the country down in the name of the virus. What are we willing to do for the sake of the unborn? Inconvenient truths are necessary to make progress in protecting life. While news reporting focuses on what they call Florida’s “controversial” ban on abortions after 15-weeks. I’d like those reporting news to watch what an abortion after 15 weeks looks like and tell me that’s not “controversial”. As I’ve covered previously, about 95% of abortions happen prior to 15 weeks, so the legislation being considered by the state just scratches the surface of the overall picture. That said, the Florida House took a big step towards protecting the lives of approximately 5,000 future Floridians a year yesterday. For them it’s a matter of life and death.
