Rick Scott is Right on Social Security & Medicare - Top 3 Takeaways

Rick Scott is Right – Setting the Social Security & Medicare Record Straight - Top 3 Takeaways - February 10th, 2023

  1. Setting the record straight. Lies, lies everywhere there’s lies. From the President of the United States who came to Tampa yesterday to those doing the bidding for him in our news media... Rick Scott and now Marco Rubio are said to be supportive of “ending or cutting Social Security benefits”. This was referenced by President Biden in the State of the Union, though as he pointed out he didn’t name names, but suggested we could contact his office for the plans. He had them. What he has is a bunch of lies. And on Thursday, while in Tampa, he spewed them, while naming names. Rick Scott and Marco Rubio. So, let's set the record straight. As always there are two sides to stories and one side to facts, so what are the facts which have specifically brought Florida’s senators into the mix? Let’s start with Senator Rick Scott. You’ll likely remember his Rescue America Plan released last year as an agenda he used to attempt to create a platform for Republicans to run on in the midterms in addition to his bid to challenge Mitch McConnell’s leadership post in the Senate. Number 6 of the 12–point plan included two action items seized on by President Biden and the left. The first, was this:
  2.  All federal legislation sunsets in 5 years. If a law is worth keeping, Congress can pass it again. Now, independent of the programs at hand, who really thinks that’s a bad idea? Truly, I’d love to hear the case. But anyway, now, given that the Social Security Act and the Medicare Act are laws, Democrats have twisted that to mean that Rick Scott wants the end of Social Security and Medicare. Which by the way he is on the record as saying they are laws worth keeping but also that need to be fixed as is indicated by the second point in his plan, they’ve bastardized which states: Force Congress to issue a report every year telling the public what they plan to do when Social Security and Medicare go bankrupt. Now, not only does that not suggest Social Security and Medicare should be ended or cut... It’s highlighting the fact that they’re lying to you. Who are they? Everyone who says everything is fine with Social Security and Medicare. On the Social Security Administration's website, they currently have this disclosure: The concepts of solvency, sustainability, and budget impact are common in discussions of Social Security, but are not well understood. Currently, the Social Security Board of Trustees projects program cost to rise by 2035 so that taxes will be enough to pay for only 75 percent of scheduled benefits. Got that? If we do nothing Social Security is insolvent in 12 years. And as for Medicare, in their annual report, it’s worse. Part A, guess when they say that implodes? Five years. Yes, five years.
  3. What the left is doing is a classic case of projecting. Senator Scott should be lauded for advocating Americans be informed about these issues so politicians would be forced to address them. The reality is that it’s the status quo, as represented by President Biden and the left, that will guarantee that there are Social Security and Medicare cuts based on each agency’s own accounting. So yeah, lies, lies, everywhere there’s lies and Senator Scott is the bogeyman for having the audacity to highlight the extent to which you’ve already been lied to by them and in actually attempting to address the issues while there’s still time before people are hurt by real cuts in the programs. And as for Rubio? He had the audacity to a) Support Senator Scott’s plan and b) Proposed the Providing for Life Act which allows parents to borrow against their earned Social Security benefits to take parental leave. Again, it’s nothing but lies, lies and everywhere more lies by those who are already setting us all up for Medicare and Social Security cuts, by ignoring a brewing crisis and doing nothing but attempting to politically destroy those who dare inform you of the truth. But I mentioned this isn’t just a case of projecting but a classic one. While still in the United States Senate, on the Senate floor during a budget debate Joe Biden said this: I argued that we should freeze federal spending, I meant Social Security as well. I meant Medicare and Medicaid. I meant veterans’ benefits. I meant every single solitary thing in the government. And I not only tried it once, I tried it twice, I tried it a third time, and I tried it a fourth time. Back then Senator Joe Biden was telling the truth. He did propose freezing Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and veterans benefits on four different occasions unsuccessfully in the United States Senate. But your dishonest news media, rather than highlighting this truth and having a serious conversation about the real issues ahead of us, are busy lying and covering for the president who actually has tried to do what he’s projecting onto Senators Scott and Rubio. As always, two sides to stories and one side to facts.
