Florida’s Updated Voter Registration by Party – March 2023

Florida’s Updated Voter Registration by Party – March 2023

Bottom Line: The Florida Division of Elections has provided the update for all eligible voter registrations through February. Florida’s Democrats spent the first couple of months soul searching following the record Republican wins last November. Settling on former Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried to lead the party going forward. Among the questions in the early going this year. Will Ron run? And have Republicans potentially peaked in performance in Florida? November of 2024 is a long way away but the regular changes in Florida’s voter registration rolls help to show real-time trends in political preferences.

These are the year-to-date voter registration information:

  • DEM: -61,347 (-15,221 last month)
  • GOP: -8,311 (+4,460 last month)
  • NPA/Other: +10,819 (+18,034 last month)

The current breakout of registered voters looks like this...

  • DEM: 33.6%
  • GOP: 36.6%
  • NPA/Other: 29.8%

A rather stunning story of Democrat defections is continuing to play out with a significant loss of voters through the first two months of this year. What’s more is that NPA and Republican registrations somewhat meaningfully rose in February, while Democrats continued to suffer large numbers of defectors.

The Republican advantage relative to Democrats now stands at a record 436,990 voters with a net change of nearly 20,000 to the advantage of the GOP in February alone. And with NPA’s rapidly adding to voter rolls, at current pacing, it’s possible that by that by the 2024 election cycle NPA registrations could be threatening to overtake Democrats in the state. Notably, while Republicans won all but five counties last November, there remain 13 of Florida’s 67 counties in which Democrats retain a registration advantage, including South Florida’s TriCounty.
