The race for another new local seat in Florida's House of Representatives is in our Election Spotlight.

District 81 State Rep. Kelly Skidmore is running in District 92, which covers unincorporated areas of western Boca Raton to Boynton Beach.

"The number 1 issue that I hear from people on the campaign trail is property insurance. The cost of properties is second to that. Those are the two things that are worrying people in District 92."

The Democrat and CEO of the Palm Beach County Medical Society was elected in 2020, but also served in the state House from 2006 to 2010, as well as previously working as a legislative aid in Tallahassee.

"I have a full understanding of the legislative process, of the appropriations process, of working alongside colleagues on both the Democratic and Republican side and getting the job done."

Skidmore is being challenged by Republican Dorcas Hernandez, a Peruvian-born business owner. She runs a consulting firm for businesses and government officials coming to the U.S. from Central and South America.

We reached out to Hernandez for an interview, but did not hear back.
