Violent Crime Up in Tampa, Leaders Ask for Answers

TAMPA -- Police numbers seem to show an increase in violent crime since the first of the year.. and local leaders are calling for help.

Violent crime is up more than a third in Tampa since January. Hillsborough County Commission Chair Les Miller says the problem is gangs.

He and Tampa city oouncilman Orlando Gudes are urging residents to tell police whatever they know about several recent shootings. They also want residents to report any large unauthorized parties and gatherings, which are banned because of the pandemic.
