LISTEN: Pasco Prepares for Storm Flooding By Clearing Vegetation

NEW PORT RICHEY -- It's not known whether Tropical Storm Isaias or another storm will bring heavy downpours to Pasco County this season, but whatever happens, Pasco County is in one way more prepared to fight the flooding that has occurred during previous hurricanes and tropical storms.

Pasco Emergency Management Director Andrew Fossa says the county has used FEMA and state grant money to clear vegetation in nature preserves that was blocking drainage. Fossa says this should make it easier for water to run off instead of backing up into neighborhoods.

Poor drainage and street flooding has been a problem mainly for areas west of U.S. 19 but some east county areas have had issues as well.
