UPDATE: Jackson Health & Memorial Open Senior COVID-19 Vaccine Portals

Jackson Healthcare, in Miami-Dade, has opened its COVID-19 vaccine scheduling portal for seniors early.

By clicking here people over 65-years-old and who agree they've spoken to their doctors about the vaccine can schedule their appointments.

In Broward, Memorial Healthcare has extended its program to those 65 and older.

Appointments are required, with no walk-ins being accepted.

Current Memorial patients can schedule their shot through the MyChart portal. Others can call Centralized Scheduling at 954-276-4340 Monday through Friday 8a to 5p.

South Florida seniors will soon have another venue for COVID-19 vaccinations. Jackson Health System's appointment website is scheduled to launch this morning at 11 a.m. Governor Ron DeSantis offering an incentive to move quickly.

"If you have hospitals like Jackson that are meeting or exceeding their targets, then we're going to send them more vaccine," DeSantis said at a Monday afternoon press conference.

Jackson Health System CEO Carlos Migoya says they'll start with 14,000 patients a week.

"We feel within 2 to 3 weeks that we can gear this thing up to somewhere around the 60 to 75 thousand patients a week. We'd be able to vaccinate approximately 60 percent of the over 65 in Miami-Dade County," Migoya said.

Those higher numbers are expected by the end of January or early February. Migoya says after that, they'll open up to younger patients.
