Florida airports to receive millions of dollars in COVID relief funds

Florida's airports and airport businesses will receive over $200 million in COVID-19 Relief Funding to help mitigate the economic challenges caused by the pandemic.

Passenger traffic at Orlando International Airport- Florida's busiest- declined by 57-percent in 2020.

The funding from the FAA will support both airport activity and small business activity on airport property such as car rental companies, parking and in-terminal concessions.

"As we continue to combat this pandemic, our local airports continue to be hit tremendously hard as a result of reduced air travel throughout the past year," Florida Congressman Darren Soto said. "These funds will ensure that essential services and small businesses within the airport are protected during this devastating time along with workers and travelers."

The federal funds being allocated are part of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act passed by Congress in December which contained nearly $2 billion in funding to be awarded as economic relief to eligible U.S. airports and businesses at those airports.
