Palm Beach County is considering a proposal to require automatic inspections of buildings at a certain age, in the wake of the deadly condo collapse in Surfside.

The plan would have structures that are four stories or higher, standing for 25 years or more and to the east of I-95 to be inspected to determine if they are structurally safe.

The building owners would be required to pay for the inspection and submit the results to the county.

High-rise buildings 35 years and older to the west of I-95 would also need to be inspected.

The County Commission on Tuesday tabled the vote for two months.
