A Florida woman is accused of ripping off dozens people in a real estate scam, pocketing nearly $300,000.
She was caught in an investigation that the Florida Dept. of Education dubs "Operation NOT for sale by owner."
20-year old Tabria Josey has been arrested for allegedly defrauding more than 45 victims who were attempting to sell or rent 25 properties in Flagler, Indian River, Lee, Orange, Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties.
Investigators say Josey listed properties for sale on several sites without the true owners' knowledge, impersonated those owners and acted as the title agent to facilitate the closing.
Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody says Josey "took advantage of Florida’s red-hot real estate market to rip off homebuyers and renters. Her crimes spanned six counties, involved 25 properties and tricked consumers into parting with nearly $300,000. As the investigation into this elaborate real estate scheme remains active, my statewide prosecutors will continue to work with law enforcement to ensure the defendant faces justice for her crimes.”
