South Florida cigarette thief busted after string of robberies

MIAMI, FL - A man wanted in connection with a string of cigarette robberies at several South Florida stores has been arrested.

Miami-Dade police arrested 31-year-old Angel Llanes on multiple armed robbery, burglary and grand theft charges.

Police believe Llanes is responsible for four robberies over a span of five days in Miami.

The first robbery occurred on May 9th around 2 a.m. at a Walgreens on Southwest 13th Street.

The store's clerk was checking out a customer when the suspect walked behind the counter and grabbed packs of cigarettes.

When the clerk ordered the suspect to leave, the suspect said he had a gun and threatened to shoot the clerk if he tried to stop him.

On May 11th, the same suspect went back to the same Walgreens, and started loading cigarettes and lighters into a bag.

When employees tried to stop him, the suspect threatened to shoot them.

On May 12th, the suspect stole several packs of cigarettes from behind the counter of a Walgreens on Northwest 7th Street.

The suspect again threatened employees, this time telling employees he was armed with a knife under his shirt.

On May 13th, the suspect robbed a Family Dollar by jumping behind the counter, demanding employees get away from him if they didn’t want to get hurt, then loading packs of cigarettes into a bag and fleeing the scene.

Police released surveillance images and cellphone video of the thefts, which aided in Llanes' arrest.

Llanes was booked into jail and is being held without bond.
