The Bible will remain in Palm Beach County public schools.

During Wednesday night's school board meeting, local activist and rabbi Barry Silver spoke about his objection to the Bible.

"The Bible is at the top of the list of every single category established by the governor and the Florida Legislature for banning books."

Silver had previously petitioned to have the Bible removed from schools for sexual content.

State law does not call for banning any books, but rather making sure that the ones in schools are age appropriate.

Superintendent Michael Burke noted that it was clear the rabbi was attempting to send a message and he recommended against banning the Bible.

"It's clear to me Rabbi Silver's appeal is intended to send a broader message about the slippery slope of book banning. I'm not comfortable banning any book for the sake of making a point or sending a message."

The board voted unanimously to keep it on campuses for optional reading.
