Broward School Board To Vote On New Police Force Plan

The Broward School Board is expected to vote on a controversial proposal creating a district police force. Vice Chair Debbi Hixon says the board needs more time to analyze the plan to replace 200 school resource officers from local law enforcement agencies. Critics say creating an entire new layer of government is not only expensive, but it may also not prove to be any safer. But proponents say this will create a more cohesive unit and direct board oversight could limit rising costs. Miami-Dade and Palm Beach have had their own police forces for decades.
