Tornado Watch has been issued for South Florida as inclement weather approaches on Sunday. The watch remains in effect until 2 p.m. Storms are expected to intensify in Broward County as early as 10 a.m., with the most severe conditions anticipated around noon, continuing southward toward Miami and even the Florida Keys.

NBC 6 weather models show slight variations in timing, consistently indicating a window between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., with a focal point around 1 p.m. Broward County will experience the initial rainfall and be the first to clear.

By 6 or 7 p.m., dry conditions will prevail before rain returns on Monday. While the entire viewing area faces the possibility of severe storms, the risk is lower to the north of Fort Lauderdale and higher to the south.

  • Damaging winds pose an elevated risk across the entire area during the storm passage.
  • Lightning and heavy downpours are possible throughout the region.
  • The risk of hail is negligible (0%).
  • To the north of Fort Lauderdale, the chance of a tornado is approximately 2%.
  • To the south of Fort Lauderdale, the tornado risk increases to around 5%.
  • However, it’s important to note that tornadoes cannot be ruled out anywhere in South Florida.
