New Spring Break Crackdown on Miami Beach

The city of Miami Beach throwing a pail of water on this year's Spring Break. The commission earlier this month voted to impose a midnight curfew, limit beach entry and add security checkpoints next month. This year, in a move approved during a commission meeting, the city will be implementing a midnight curfew, limited beach entry and security checkpoints , higher parking rates, doubled towing fees.

During the busiest weekends, the city is imposing DUI checkpoints and license plate readers on the causeway...and likely $100/day parking rates..

Miami Beach's mayor has a blunt message for spring breakers. Mayor Steve Meiner said the security checkpoints will go up next month to limit beach access, the traffic pattern will change around Fifth Street, and towing fees for non-residents will double to more than 500 dollars.

Parking will get more expensive, sidewalk cafes on Ocean Drive will be closed and police will man a DUI checkpoint on Fifth Street. Meiner tells 7News spring breakers can come here and enjoy but don't come here looking for trouble.
