Controversy Over Florida's Top Doc Amid 8th Measles Case in Broward

The measles outbreak in South Florida is now up to eight. The Florida Department of Health confirming the news.

The latest case reportedly in a child between five to nine years old. Previous cases were linked to Manatee Bay Elementary School in Weston.

Florida DOH released a letter from Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo emphasizing how contagious measles is and how effective the MMR vaccine is in preventing the disease, but Ladapo did not urge parents to immunize their children.

That is drawing ire from some.

Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo said he was leaving it to parents to send their kids back to the school, while the federal government recommends staying at home to stop the spread. Ladapo was appointed by Republican Governor Ron DeSantis in 2021 after his vocal opposition to COVID-19 vaccine mandates.
