A Florida congresswoman today presented the Delray Beach Police Department with a check for nearly $1 million in new federal funding.

As Democrat Lois Frankel explains, the money is earmarked for the agency's Real-Time Crime Center.

"This is going to be a strategic way to better observe, detect, prevent crime and to hold the criminals accountable."

The funding will support implementation of a license plate reader program, which will help police better know who is coming into and out of Delray Beach.

Police Chief Russ Mager says the money will be used to boost his agency's Real Time Crime Center.

"This is a significant investment that will truly bolster our efforts to keep Delray Beach safe."

This was one of several local projects the congresswoman requested for Palm Beach County and was included in the fiscal year 2024 funding package signed into law last month by President Biden.
