A deadly deputy-involved shooting is under investigation in Palm Beach County.
The Sheriff's Office says a man was at a shopping plaza at the corner of Hypoluxo Road and Military Trail near Boynton Beach around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, threatening people with a shotgun and a rifle. That included an unsuccessful carjacking attempt of a woman with a child in her car.
When a deputy arrived to try and de-escalate the situation, officials say the suspect grabbed his rifle from the ground and pointed it at the deputy. That's when the deputy fired an unknown amount of shots, killing the man.
The suspect's name has not been released, but sheriff's officials say he had a criminal record.
The FDLE is investigating and the deputy is on paid leave, which is standard protocol.
