Former Pats Assistant Brian Flores Is Now The Miami Dolphins Head Coach

Brian Flores-Miami Dolphins Head Coach

The Miami Dolphins have a new head coach.

Miami had to wait until after the Super Bowl to officially hire Brian Flores. The man who is credited with calling the defensive plays for the New England Patriots in their stifling 13 - 3 win over the Los Angeles Rams was spending his Monday at the Dolphins training complex in Davie, rather than celebrating with the rest of his former team.

In the afternoon, he was introduced to the media as the new head coach of the Miami Dolphins, who fired Adam Gase after three years on the job.

Flores, the first black head coach in franchise history, most recently worked as a defensive assistant for the Patriots.

After New England lost its former Defensive Coordinator, Matt Patricia, to the Detroit Lions' head coaching position following the 2017/2018 season, Flores was not given the official job title, but called the plays this past season for the defense.

Flores spent 15 years in the Patriots organization, working in several positions with the team, including coaching players on offense and defense. He says that helped him understand all positions on the field.

Team owner Stephen Ross has described the situation the team is in as one in which they want to build slowly to become a very good team for a long time. Translation: a full rebuild.

The Dolphins believe that Flores is the right guy to lead that construction project.
