Boynton Beach Police Officer Saves Elderly Woman's Life

The Boynton Beach Police Department has released video of one of their officers saving the life of an elderly woman.

Officer Chris Schalk was working off-duty security detail at the Golden Corral restaurant last Sunday night when an 83-year old woman started choking on a piece of broccoli.

He sprang into action, performing the Heimlich maneuver, until the food came out.

"It's one of those things, a lot of things we do on the job, you know we don't think about it, we just act."

He says the department trains its officers on what to do in those types of situations, but reality did sink in.

"It was my first time having to actually do it in real life, so that ran through my mind real quick and then I didn't think about anything else. I just reverted back to the training."

Officer Schalk says paramedics showed up and checked out the woman who refused to go to the hospital.
