Most people wouldn't care if most American brands were to go away:

Bottom Line: We've heard a lot about waning "brand loyalty" in recent years. According to the latest research by the Havas group – that's evidently true. According to their study of more than 300,000 people, 74% of the biggest brands could go away without the average person caring. The brands that did matter most to people are those they viewed to make their lives better/easier (like Google, Microsoft, PayPal, etc.).

I found that to be kind of sad. For example...I've never owned a Ford but I'd be saddened if it went away. Despite not being a customer I want it to be successful and thrive.
