SFWMD: Conserve Voluntarily Now, Or It May Be Mandatory Soon

The South Florida Water Management District has issued a water shortage warning to more than 8 million residents from Orlando to the Keys, including Palm Beach County.

The Chairman of the District's Board, Dan O'Keefe, says if residents voluntarily cut back on their water usage, it will help the water supply last through the region's dry season.  Otherwise, mandatory water restrictions may be considered.

The South Florida Water Management District covers 16 counties and since November 1, rainfall in the area as a whole has been nearly seven inches below average.
