PBSO Deputy Donates Kidney To Dispatcher

For Protecting the Palm Beaches, we honor Palm Beach County Sheriff's Deputy Michele Shaffer, who donated a kidney to a department employee.

Heidi Grob is the Sheriff's 911 dispatch supervisor, whose kidneys were damaged at the age of eleven when she underwent cancer treatment.  Her condition worsened in the past year and she was heading toward the need for dialysis.

The woman's family members were ruled out as donors, so she turned to her co-workers.  35 people came forward and after lots of testing, it was determined that the best match was airport K-9 handler, Deputy Shaffer.

A couple of weeks later and both women are doing fine.
