A Treasure Coast shelter is about to put more than 20 dogs up for adoption after becoming over capacity.
Officials at the Humane Society of St. Lucie County say they just took in 22 abused and malnourished dogs that were rescued by the Sheriff's Office from a property where they were kept tied to kennels and given only water and bread to eat. It's been speculated that the dogs, mostly Pit Bulls, were bred for fighting. Two people were arrested.
The rescues mean the shelter has 170 dogs and they need to find new homes for them, so beginning Saturday, dogs ages one year and older will be adopted at a rate of just $25.
If you can't provide a forever home for a dog you can also be a temporary foster parent until a permanent home can be found.
