Jewish residents of Boca Raton and Holocaust survivors are celebrating the fact that the annual PGA senior tournament played in the city will no longer be sponsored by Allianz.
For years, demonstrations were held outside the old course at Broken Sound by people who claim the German insurance company sold tens of thousands of life insurance policies to Nazi victims in the 1930's and 40's, and refused to honor them.
City officials and tournament organizers say Allianz decided to pull out of the event as a business decision, but has not given any further information.
Among those celebrating is State Representative Emily Slosberg who took to Facebook to state "The Holocaust survivors and families will no longer have to be insulted annually, by Allianz's 'charity' golf sponsorship."
