PBSO Volunteers Honored

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office has 1,900 volunteers and several were honored this week at the PBSO Volunteer Awards Luncheon.

For Protecting the Palm Beaches, we're highlighting some of the award winners, like Terri Mirolla, named Administrative Volunteer Captain of the Year.  She became a PBSO volunteer in 2007, serving in several units before becoming a volunteer field training officer.

Volunteer Captain Richard Pelletier won the Lifesaving Award.  He noticed a comatose man lying on a picnic table while he was on bike patrol at Lake Worth Beach, called 911 and had the man's friend perform CPR, while on the phone with the emergency dispatcher.  It was later determined that the man had overdosed on heroin, but was saved thanks to Pelletier's actions.

Also honored, the Sheriff's Volunteer Emergency Response Team, or VERT which is on call 24-7 and members often deal with rough weather and traffic.  This is the unit that helps with traffic detail when President Trump is in town.

Check out some more honorees and congratulations to everyone who was recognized.
