For Protecting the Palm Beaches, Part 2 of our conversation with West Palm Beach Police Chief Sarah Mooney.
A little over a week ago, several people were busted in a prostitution sting, carried out in the city through ads posted in the classified site, Backpage.
The chief tells us this is something that's done quite frequently.
"We do at least a monthly operation where we're either trying to arrest the guys that are picking up the girls or arresting the girls that are trying to solicit. And then as a result of that we have a program that deals with the prostitutes or "johns" that got arrested. They have almost like a rehab class that they are able to take and get educated as to all the bad things that are attached to prostitution."
She says a judge will offer this program for first-time offenders.
"It's for those that maybe got into a situation that there were other contributing factors that made them think that that was the right thing to do. We want to try to dissuade them as strongly as possible to make sure that they don't do it again."
