So-Called "Whiskey & Wheaties" Bill On Governor's Desk

Soon, you may start seeing vodka, rum and whiskey on the shelves at your favorite grocery stores, something currently not allowed by state law.

A bill has been sent to the governor that would repeal provisions in the law that require stores that sell liquor to have a wall separating those sales from other grocery sales.

The Florida House of Representatives on Wednesday passed the bill by one vote.  The Senate approved it back in March.

Right now, you can buy only beer and wine without leaving the supermarket.

Those in favor of the bill say the current Prohibition-era law is outdated.  Legislators who voted against the bill say it would benefit corporations like Walmart, but hurt mom and pop liquor stores.

Governor Rick Scott's office says he is reviewing the measure.
