An above average number of alligators were captured and removed in Florida last year.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, 8,050 gators were captured in 2016, and most them were killed. The annual average since 2001 is 7,700.
The largest number of alligators were removed in 2006 when trappers caught 11,664 of the reptiles.
FWC says alligators are removed from an area when classified as a "nuisance", which means they are longer than four feet and pose a threat to people, pets or property.
