Florida's "Whiskey & Wheaties" Bill Vetoed

Southern Comfort Sold To Sazerac For $543 Million

Governor Rick Scott has vetoed a bill that would have repealed a Prohibition-era law mandating that a wall separate sales of liquor from other groceries.

The governor says he met with folks on both sides of the issue and was concerned about the possible effect on small businesses.

Independent liquor-store owners were against the bill, which would have allowed places like Walmart to sell rum, vodka and other liquor without needing a separate store.
