Florida's Chief Financial Officer is returning to his hometown of Palm Beach County at the end of the month.
Jeff Atwater, who grew up in North Palm Beach and lived in the area until he joined Governor Rick Scott's cabinet in January of 2011, announced back in February that he would be stepping down from his post to take a position with Florida Atlantic University.
Atwater will be the CFO of FAU.
He turned in his formal resignation letter to the governor this week and says his last day in office will be June 30.
Atwater served in the state House and Senate prior to joining the cabinet. Scott will choose a replacement to serve until next year's November elections.
