PBC Employees To Staff Hurricane Shelters

Hurricane Season Sign With Stormy Background

Palm Beach County employees are being asked to sign up to volunteer at hurricane shelters if we should face a storm this season.

Palm Beach County Administrator Verdenia Baker sent a letter to county staff, which said the county will no longer rely on volunteers with the American Red Cross to staff the shelters.

During last month's Governor's Hurricane Conference, it was discused that some counties hit hard by Hurricane Matthew last year had a hard time getting enough Red Cross workers to open and operate shelters.

Employees who sign up over the next week can pick the shelter where they want to work.
