Elderly Woman Scammed By Phony Roofers

Crooks are using the rainy season to take advantage of the elderly in our community.

An 87-year old woman living in a Boynton Beach retirement community got a knock at the door...a man telling her she had several broken roof tiels and he was there to fix her roof.  She allowed him in for about 20 minutes while he pretended to check her ceiling, but instead stealing nearly 40 pieces of jewelry worth about $45,000.

The woman claims she heard another man on the roof, but didn't see him.  Boynton Beach Police are investigating.

Authorities say residents should check any roofer's employee ID and call his company to confirm they are legitimate before allowing them into your home.
