Hysterical Media Headlines (Funny or Absurd) for August 21st:
Bottom Line: These are your daily headlines brought to you by your friends in the generally Godless, soulless and slanderous news media...For my full commentary on these headlines click the audio below.
The Week When President Trump Resigned Frank Bruni, New York Times
Excerpt: As the worst week in a cursed presidency wound down, I spotted more and more forecasts that Donald Trump would resign
Excerpt: It is easy to condemn Trump and the white nationalists who participated in the rally—to say that they are the bad people. But we give them life. What about the racially coded language that exploits white fears and has defined our political discourse for generations?
- It's Not Hysterical to Recognize the Threat Trump Poses Katha Pollitt, The Nation
- Trump's a Weasel Who Buoys America's Racists Maureen Dowd, New York Times
- How to Know You're in a Mass Hysteria Bubble Scott Adams, Dilbert
Excerpt: A mass hysteria happens when the public gets a wrong idea about something that has strong emotional content and it triggers cognitive dissonance that is often supported by confirmation bias. In other words, people spontaneously hallucinate a whole new (and usually crazy-sounding) reality and believe they see plenty of evidence for it. The Salem Witch Trials are the best-known example of mass hysteria. The McMartin Pre-School case and the Tulip Bulb hysteria are others. The dotcom bubble probably qualifies. We might soon learn that the Russian Collusion story was mass hysteria in hindsight. The curious lack of solid evidence for Russian collusion is a red flag. But we’ll see how that plays out.
The most visible Mass Hysteria of the moment involves the idea that the United States intentionally elected a racist President. If that statement just triggered you, it might mean you are in the Mass Hysteria bubble.
That's well done Dilbert...
The material here is amazing and wonderful in it's absurdity simultaneously. Once again, if you look at these through the prism of Donald Trump being President, and more elected Republicans serving in the United States since the 1920's...it's pretty hilarious! The air of desperation, advocacy and instructions for their "resistance" is comical. These people really do take themselves completely seriously!
