Apple's a couple weeks away from it's biggest product announcements in years (we hope):
Bottom Line: September 12th will be a memorable day in Apple history. One way or another. Apple has been an altogether different company since the day in 2011 when Steve Jobs had to call it a career. Much like Bill Gates at Microsoft, you just can't replace the creative genius of those two. So much like Microsoft struggled to innovate for many years after the departure of Bill Gates from daily operations, Apple has lacked innovation as well. Sure Apple's taken good products and made them a little better but that's been about it. The big question is if that will be about to change.
On September 12th Apple will host it's biggest product unveiling event in a minimum of two years and arguably four. The new product announcements that are forthcoming (aside from any surprises) will include:
- A new Apple watch
- A new Apple TV product
- & of course a new iPhone
So what's potentially different and exciting if Apple gets it right?
Apple Watch: Potentially will be water resistant/water proof and importantly a stand alone device (if Apple gets it right it won't have to be tethered to the iPhone to gain full functionality). This would be a great advancement for active people, especially in South Florida, that don't want to have to tote a phone around with them but need to remain connected to the outside world.
Apple TV: I'm not optimistic that this is going to significantly move the needle. Apple TV is probably the least impressive Apple product sold today. It's inferior technology for streaming devices. A lot would have to happen here to make it worthwhile.
iPhone 8: The granddaddy of all Apple products that is the single most commonly owned mobile device in the world, most approved of and most anticipated. Aside from the usual two year upgrade cycle being upon us for a new iPhone, this is also the tenth anniversary edition of the iPhone and Apple has spent billions in R&D to nail this release. Among anticipated features...
New facial scan technology for security purposes. This would be the first major consumer technology product to introduce facial recognition software that could be used for added security - beyond fingerprint technology. Additionally, we can expect a redesign on the phone, a faster OS, improved water resistance/proofing, stronger glass that's more scratch resistant and augmented reality. Augmented reality is the ability to take real life images/video and combine it with other images/video. Personally AR isn't a concept I'm a fan of but it'll likely be a hit for those who already love to tweak pics they take on their phones to post to social media.
Until the 12th...
