The Trump doctrine on Immigration (is working):
Bottom Line: The idea of The Wall is far to ingrained in a literal sense for the President to ever walk away from it. Not to mention we've had stretches of border walls for many years for good reason. They're needed! Otherwise there truly isn't anything stopping the most evil and violent people in the world from coming across the border in certain stretches. As we know all to well many of them do it (MS13, ZETA, etc.). That being said simply enforcing our laws to the extent to which you have the ability - can and has made a tremendous difference. The latest figures are in from the federal government on illegal border crossings and deportations of illegal immigrants and it's significant.
According to the Department of Homeland Security:
- Illegal border crossings are down 22% ytd
- Most recently for the month of July illegal crossings were down 47%
So in other words, as the Trump administration has had an opportunity to rebuild border agent staffing levels and take the southern border seriously, they've become increasingly more successful. One of the most telling numbers of all are illegal immigrants that are voluntarily deporting rather than fighting to attempt to stay in the country. According to DHS voluntary departures (when an illegal immigrant waives the "right" to a hearing/proceedings) are up 31% ytd as well. So it's funny that when you enforce laws you find improved results among those who'd otherwise choose to break them. Who'd have thunk it? Anyway, it's a good start but clearly most who are still attempting to illegally cross the border are doing so successfully, so for those who're suggesting that enough's being done and we don't need a wall or additional border security...Would you really feel ok if half of the people who'd attempt to break into your house if they knew they could were allowed to do so?
