Tracking Trump - The President's approval for September 22nd:

Bottom Line: This is one of two weekly tracking stories to get a reality/temperature check with regard to what's really going on with public opinion of the President. In this series we'll track the high point, low point and current ratings and week over week comparisons.

  • Trump's lowest ratings: 36.8% approval and 58.6% disapprove: -21.8% (8/4/17)

  • Trump highest approval ratings were an average 45.2% approval and 43% disapproval +2.2% (1/27/17)

  • Trump's current ratings: 41.5% approval and 52.7% disapprove: -11.2%

Due to our coverage of hurricane Irma I hadn't updated this series since September 1st. A funny thing's happened over the past three weeks. President Trump's approval rating, while still not being positive, has somewhat dramatically improved. His net approval rating is 7.4% better as compared to just three weeks ago.

I've advanced the idea that there can come a point in which the media and political adversaries of the President could overplay their hand. That may well have been the case. Again, it's worth noting that if the media had as much sway as they wish they did, or that we still sometimes assume they do, there's no way that Donald Trump would be President anyway. Clearly President Trump has been attentive to the needs of those of us in Texas, Florida, an Puerto Rico due to the hurricanes. He's been resolute in his handling of North Korea and has been able to attain consensus among our key allies in how to handle "Rocket Man" going forward and he's been talking up the domestic agenda of tax cuts and occasionally healthcare in between. With healthcare reform back on the table and tax reform gaining momentum there's potential for upside if Congress can deliver.

The range was Monmouth -6% to Gallup -16%

Until next week...
